Kiama camp pays off for Kangaroos

Ronnie and Joel Murphy enjoyed meeting their Rugby League heroes, including James Tedesco. Both of the boys play for the Gerringong Lions.

The Australian Rugby League team recently made Kiama the base for their preparations for their test match against New Zealand.

The Kangaroos were overwhelmed by the support shown to them, with big crowds turning up to watch their public training sessions at the Showgrounds.

There is no doubt it buoyed them up for their 26:4 win in Wollongong on the weekend.

Rugby League great Mal Meninga, the Kangaroo’s Head Coach, told The Bugle he was very impressed with the facilities and will be back.

“I’ve never stayed in Kiama before, despite living in Canberra.

“This will definitely be my choice for a holiday in the future.”

An entourage of 40 stayed at The Sebel Harbourside, making the most of the Hotel’s gym and the nearby pool and park.

“Destination Kiama is hoping they will return, and early indications are that we will certainly be considered,”says Tourism’s Karen Ronning.
