At an Extraordinary Meeting, Kiama Council has given authority to its General Manager to proceed with the exchange and settlement of the purchase of the Kiama Hospital site from the Area Health Service.
Once the site is owned by Council, which is expected to happen at the end of February, work on the demolition of the old hospital and construction of the new Centre of Excellence for Aged Care will begin. Work is scheduled to be completed in two and a half years.
Construction of the Area Health Service’s new community health centre, at the front of the site, is also expected to be completed at the end of February.
Plans are being made for an Open Day to mark the end of an era at the Hospital. More details in a fortnight.
