Kiama’s Ali Day has easily won his 4th Coolangatta Gold, coming in five minutes ahead on the gruelling 41.8km endurance course.
Ali’s parents Ross and Kim Day travelled up for the event, and saying it was a very exciting time. “He has worked so hard and done so well,” says Ross.
Amazingly, he will have to win the event two more times to hold the record for winning the most Coolangatta Golds, as Caine Eckstein has won it five times.
There is talk of the two lining up against each other for a memorable 2017 race.
The win took both strength and focus as Ali only passed a fitness test following a calf injury the day before the race.
Keep an eye out for Ali around town and on the beaches over Christmas.
