Locals will get an insight into the impact the L’Etape cycling event will have on our area at community consultation meetings organised for late March.

“L’Etape is a huge event, run by the Tour de France,” says the Chair of Destination Kiama, Councillor Matt Brown.

“This is our chance to prove to the world that we can host major events.

“People who come to the meetings will get to understand the huge benefits this event can bring to our area.

“I don’t think it has fully sunk in yet.”

The route for the event has been set, but the details not yet released.

The event hub, as well as the start and finish lines will be based in Kiama, with the course extending through the Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands.

“The detail will be outlined at the meeting, showing which roads will be closed and when so we can see how we will be able to manage our daily lives while the event is on,” says Cllr Brown.

With over 6000 cyclists plus their families and friends expected to converge on Kiama for the event, to be held on Saturday 28 November, Cllr Brown says it is going have an extraordinary impact on the whole region.

“Accommodation is going to be booked out throughout the Illawarra and nearby South Coast.

“It is going to be an amazing event that will give us worldwide coverage.

“Come along to the meetings to find out how to get involved, ask any questions and hear from the event organisers.”

A special meeting is being held for business owners, to focus on how they can benefit from the event.

Other community meetings will be held in the lead up to the event.
