Lighthouse: logo must come down

Council has engaged a contractor to remove the ANZAC commemorative logo from Kiama Lighthouse following a negative response to its application to keep it there indefinitely.

“I’m very pleased to see the original commitment is being honoured,” says Ian Clifford, President of Lighthouses of Australia.

Crown Lands refused the application on heritage concerns, and because it was not originally intended as an ongoing installation.

“I’m very disappointed but I understand we need to honour the commitment we made in 2014,” says Mayor Mark Honey.

“As much as we would love to see the logo remain, we will except the decision handed down,” says the President of the Kiama-Jamberoo RSL, Mongo Delamont.

“The logo has certainly served its purpose in that it has given cause for reflection and a show of respect to those gone long before us.”
