Kiama Art Society 2016 Annual Exhibition, to be held in mid-August, will feature 375 art works by 170 artists from Sydney, the Illawarra, Kiama and the South Coast on display.

The Society’s President, Judy White, says, “Our exhibition is regarded as one of the best in NSW for the high standard of works presented by prominent and emerging artists in our region, as well as the support shown by our members in both entering works and helping to put the show on.”

This year’s judges will be Jeanette Watson and Tina Spira, both from Sydney.

The Art Society was formed in 1966, and the first exhibition was held at the showground in 1979. It now has 230 members and is fortunate to have the Old Coach House, once a part of Hartwell House in Farmer Street, as its home.

Judy says she loves the way the exhibition is supported by the community each year.

“There is no way that we’d be able to put this on this year without the support of our sponsors, large and small, and our volunteers,” she says.

Systems have been developed by the Committee over the years to make the process of accepting, hanging and returning the works run smoothly.

“Artists keep telling us how easy it is to deliver their paintings to our show.”

The Opening Night, when the winners are announced, has long been a highlight of the Kiama social calendar.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn from the comments of the judges, while catching up with friends or meeting new people,” says Judy.

It is also an opportunity to find out more about the Society and perhaps become involved.

“ We’re always looking for new blood on the Committee,” says Judy. “Some of us are looking to wind down.”
